From a very early age Matt had a keen interest in visual narrative, filmmaking and visual effects. Having played with cameras and model-making in his youth, before going on to study film and television production, in the days before CGI was taught in schools.
Matt impressively self-taught himself CGI and tried to incorporate it into his educational course work. Alongside this he studied life drawing and anatomy, which he says always proves useful in his sculptural and character work. Soon after college Matt worked for a number of video games companies, including Sony Computer Entertainment, before briefly working in animated film, in various lead and art director roles. Outside of work he is actively involved in historic aircraft restoration.
