2.5D Imagery

Using still images and transforming them into motion gifs provides us with a unique new medium to deliver powerful storytelling.

We have been seeing a trend in using 2.5D imagery in recent campaigns surrounding the mission to reduce climate change and promote conservation.  One of our favourites that has resurfaced and gone somewhat viral over the past month is this parallax animation from Make Productions for WWF and Ad Hoc Films.  The campaign delivers the important message of wildlife conservation through the medium of 2.5D imagery.

The work doesn’t stop there: long-term collaborator of Happy Finish, Elisabeth Hoff is using her powerful ‘Drowning in Plastic’ awareness campaign to promote the Marine Conservation Society’s latest drive for plastic pollution reduction, the Great British Beach Clean.  Last year, the GBBC saw over 15,000 volunteers clear 494 beaches collecting 8550kgs of litter over the weekend, doubling its size from the previous year.  Get involved with this year’s beach clean here and help collect even more plastic waste.  Let’s triple it in 2019.

This new media opens up a new channel through which artists can address important topics of conversation. Go behind the scenes to see how 2.5D imagery works here.
