UTILISING MIXED REALITY
TO ENGAGE AND INFORM
VIP F1 GUESTS
Happy Finish partnered with Marketing Minds and ExxonMobil to create one of the first brand-powered Magic Leap experiences, bringing mixed reality to Formula 1's 2019 season.
At this year's Monaco Grand Prix, Formula 1 VIP attendees were given the opportunity to get to grips with an Aston Martin Red Bull Racing car, placed into their real-life environment at the race through our mixed reality Magic Leap experience. During the table-top experience, the user sees an animated CG model of the car, allowing them to delve into every intricate part of the machine (engine, oil tank and fuel cell included) and learn how each element works. Using the Magic Leap remote, they can also interact with the experience, moving the car parts around to get a better look and gain an understanding of how ExxonMobil's innovations fuel the racing car's engine.
Both the animated car model and a 3D asset of Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen were created in-house, utilising our extensive capabilities in CGI asset manipulation. Using advanced motion capture technology we were able to create an AR version of Verstappen who moves and behaves just like his real-life counterpart.
To complete the project, specially-created voiceovers from Verstappen and legendary driving commentator David Croft were integrated in order to engage the user and make the MR experience feel even more realistic.
Originally launched at the Monaco Grand Prix, the experience has since been rolled out at the Canadian Grand Prix and there are also plans for it to feature at all major Formula 1 events throughout the season for racing fans across the world to enjoy.
