Finn is an experienced sports photographer and in the run-up to this year’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Finn wanted to combine the last eight years of his Olympic photography into one epic image.
Speaking on the project Finn comments, “my idea was a movie poster, much like a classic Star Wars poster. I collected appropriate imagery and left the next stages of Art Direction up to Ryan. Needless to say, I was thrilled with his initial rough draft, which was pretty much bang on. We then had a great time adding subtle elements, layering the image”.
Combining eight different images into one poses a series of technical challenges. Each image was sourced from separate shoots, with different lighting and angles, meaning the images had to be composited, balanced and graded to fit together. Finn was really impressed with Ryan’s ability to digitally map the current Team Canada hockey jerseys onto the players that were taken from his Olympic photography work over the last few years.
