KICKING OFF NIKE'S KIT LAUNCH
As a trusted partner to Nike Global Football, Happy Finish leveraged our global studio network to deploy London-based producers and artists on-set in Paris, in addition to overnight weekend support from our team in Portland, to work on the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup kit launch campaign. Working together seamlessly, we were able to post-produce and deliver final key artwork on an extremely tight press release schedule.
For their global launch event, Nike invited female football stars from 14 national teams to meet at the prestigious Palais Brongniart for the grand reveal of their 2019 home and away kits. Manufactured using 100% recycled polyester made from 12 plastic bottles each, the environmentally-friendly kits caused quite a stir in the media, and our production and retouch teams were on set in Paris on launch day to see the unveiling first hand.
Photographer Elaine Constantine captured the athletes on the steps of the Palais Brongniart. Due to an extremely tight availability window, with the athletes and launch deadline the next day, our UK Head of Production and senior retoucher Kieran were on set in an advisory capacity to guide the post-production and ensure final delivery in the time frame available.
From the moment shooting wrapped, our UK and US studios worked seamlessly together around the clock to deliver the images in a 16-hour turnaround time. UK-based retouch artist Kieran started with mock-ups on set, taking notes from Nike's Art Director Gary Horton, before handing over to the US studio. Our US-based retouchers - Tom, John, Thomas and Hector - worked through the European night before passing back to Kieran to complete and deliver key artwork on set at 12pm the next day, ready for the press release.
We also worked on a second image, depicting fifteen of the world's most prominent female athletes across a range of disciplines, including gymnast Simon Biles, Olympian Caster Semenya and 10-year old skateboarder Sky Brown.
We're proud to have been involved with this campaign, especially as it's the first time the 14 national team kits have been designed especially for the women's teams, rather than as adaptations of men’s team kits. Best of luck to all competing nations this year, particularly the Lionesses and Team USA!
