Each year, the Doernbecher Freestyle program partners up Nike designers with young patients of the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Working together, they bring to life an exclusive collection of custom Nike sneakers and apparel. Since the program’s 2003 debut, an astounding $17 million has been raised for the hospital from the sales of these unique designs.
For our second consecutive year, the Happy Finish US retouch team was thrilled to have the opportunity to support the Freestyle launch. Working with exceptional talents includingDan Root, Chris Hoernbecker, and Unruh/Jones, our retouchers took on this year’s designer portraits, product reveal shots and hero product imagery.
Reflecting on the project, Happy Finish retouch artist Sierra Bittinger remarked, “It’s truly been an inspiring experience for me and something I’ve felt lucky to be a part of. These designs are such an exciting way to raise support for a foundation that forever changes the lives of children and the people that rally around them. Each one of these designers exuded such an exorbitant amount of light and positivity, it was an honor to aid in showcasing that.”
The limited-edition designs were unveiled at the 14th annual Doernbecher Freestyle auction before their launch on nike.com and at select Nike retail stores. With personal meanings stitched into each detail, these unique designs spread the inspiring stories of this year’s six young designers.
